Murray McKenney
McKENNEY, MURRAY EVERETT - Following a lengthy illness, Mr. Murray Everett McKenney, 88, of Moncton, passed away at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital on Thursday, January 17, 2013. Murray was born in Dieppe and was the son of the late Everett and Jean (Murray) McKenney of Dieppe. Murray graduated from Moncton High School, and was the valedictorian of his graduating class. A Veteran, he served overseas in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Navigator during WWII. Following his release from the services, he attended Mount Allison University and went on to the University of British Columbia where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. After working in both the real estate and insurance fields, he pursued a career in the federal government, working for Manpower and Immigration for over 20 years. Leading up to his retirement, he held managerial positions in Vancouver, BC; Princeton, BC; Whitehorse, Yukon; Chilliwack, BC; Chatham, ON and Moncton. Throughout his life he enjoyed sports, and hobbies such as tennis, fishing, hunting, travelling, painting, music and chess. His love of the newest technologies led him naturally into the computer field, an area he became very accomplished at, and continued with, into his late eighties. Mr. M.E. McKenney was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Alida (Arpink) McKenney (1966) of Holland. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his daughter, Julia Palmer (McKenney) of McKees Mills; his sons, Lloyd McKenney (Vicky) of Moncton, Keith McKenney (Melissa) of Jasper, AB, Brian McKenney (Sherry) of Hinton, AB, Grant McKenney of Moncton; his ten grandchildren, Jared, Ashley, Ryan, Bill, Maggie, Thomas, Alida, Josh, Myles and Adam; one brother, Gordon McKenney (Marion) of Moncton. Also grieving his loss is his long-term friend, Shelley Johnson of Riverview and her much loved dog “Shadow”, who held a special place in his heart. Thanks go out to the staff at ProTem Services and the doctors and nurses of the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital who provided valuable solace during this difficult time.
In honoring Murray’s wishes, there will be no visitation hours. Funeral Service will be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Bernard Sloan officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service.
