BARKHOUSE, DORIS G. - Doris G. Barkhouse, 86, of People’s Park Tower, Moncton, with loving family members at her side, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre on Saturday morning, January 19, 2013. Born in Windsor, ON, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Elsie (Perry) Smiley. Doris was a retired employee of the New Brunswick Research and Productivity Council. She was one of the founding members of Mount Royal United Church, former member of the UCW and served her church in various capacities in past years. Doris enjoyed playing bridge, oil painting, sewing, knitting, quilting and was an avid dog lover. She enjoyed socializing with her friends and spending precious time with her family. Doris will be sadly missed by her sons, Lester “Les” Barkhouse and Gerald “Jerry” (Phyllis) Barkhouse, both of Moncton; precious granddaughter, Carla Lynn Hicks (Tyler); cherished great granddaughter, Gwen; sister, Bernice Campbell (late Lloyd) of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband, Albert L. Barkhouse (April 2000); sister, Berneatta and brothers, Byron and Leslie.
Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service to be held at Mount Royal United Church on Wednesday January 23, 2013 at 11:00 am with The Rev. Dr. Beverly Daley officiating. Reception following the service in the Church Hall. Interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, in the spring. In Doris’s memory, donations to the Moncton SPCA or memorial of donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
