E. Pauline Redden, age 89, of Windsor – Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and matriarch of the Redden family, Pauline passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on October 15, 1923, in Martock, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Eliza Jane (Burke) and Edward Butler Sweet. Pauline was a lifetime member of the Windsor United Church. She was a dedicated homemaker until her children grew up and then began a career as front store manager with Bateman’s Drugstore, Windsor; Lawton’s Drugs, Windsor; and Cochrane’s Pharmasave, Hantsport. Pauline was an active volunteer over the years having been involved with Cubs, UCW and Meals on Wheels. She loved to travel, whether it was the back roads of Nova Scotia with her close friend Audrey, many trips within Canada and to the Caribbean to visit family members or off to see her favourite team, the Blue Jays. Pauline had a passion for sports (especially baseball and hockey) and politics. Many lives were touched by her over the years and she will be remembered for her warmth, sense of humour and kindness. She was a willing and patient listener to friends and family and provided a steady and calming influence along with her inner strength. Pauline cherished time spent with her siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was happiest having everyone together, especially for Sunday dinners. She is survived by her daughter, Julia (Patrick) Dooley, Windsor; son, Richard (Barbara) Redden, Windsor; daughter-in-law, Pamela (nee: Nauss) Redden, Windsor; sister, Elizabeth Dearborn, Courtice, Ontario; 5 grandchildren, Christine (Glen) Earley and Paul Dooley; Frederick Redden, Allison (Glen) Steeves; Ryan (Krystal) Redden; 9 great grandchildren, William Earley and Leah Earley; Cassandra Redden and Connor Redden; Matthew Steeves, Alexander Steeves and Benjamin Steeves; Cailin Redden and Carter Redden; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Eliza Jane (Burke) and Edward Butler Sweet; she was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Roy Aubrey Redden (August 6, 2005); son, Brian Aubrey Redden (January 11, 2013); siblings, Ethel, Margaret, John, Annie, William, Alex, Edna and Ernest; half-siblings, Dick, Nellie and Susie. The family thanks the staff of the Hants Community Hospital and the nurses and staff of Meadowview Landing 1 at the Windsor Elms Village where Pauline resided for the past 13 months. A special thank you goes to Dr. Cathryn Smith for her care and compassion over the years. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Sunday, January 20, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor (902-798-2232). Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, in the Windsor United Church, 613 King Street, Windsor. The Rev. Bill Gibson officiated, followed by a reception in the Windsor United Church Annex. A private family interment was in the Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor.
