It is with deepest regret that we, the family, announce the passing of our wonderful father and special grandfather, Samuel Newman, 90, on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at the Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford, in the arms of his loving family and especially his new family the staff of the Maple Hill Manor.
Born in Kaneville, on Nov. 1, 1919, Samuel was the son of the late Albert and Dora (Gaskell) Newman,
Samuel was a retired coal miner who worked in the No. 12 and No. 18 mines until his retirement. He enjoyed working in his yard and gardens, Samuel loved the outdoors and taking walks through the woods. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Left to mourn his passing are his daughter, Dora (Robert) Smith, Daley Road, New Victoria; his son, Sam (Georgina) Lingan; son in-law, John Woodburn, Sydney; brother-in-law, Melvin Butts, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Roberta, Irene, Myles, Sam, Sammy Robert; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Louise, Hannah and Madeline. Also surviving are special friends, Sarah Jane Mahon, Jim Derabbie and Tom Nugent and many great friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Christina, daughters, Louise and Irene, brothers, John and Rupert, sisters, Dora, Bertha, Mary, Emma, Charlotte, as well as all other sisters and brothers-in-law.
There will be no visitation as per Samuel’s request. Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford (862-7500) with the Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment will be made in Forrest Haven Memorial Gardens. A luncheon in Samuel’s honour will be held immediately following at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 3226 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. All are welcome.
