ELSIE JANE MATTHEWS
October 25, 1929 – January 28, 2013
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Elsie Jane Matthews announces her passing on Monday, January 28 at her home in Grand Bay at the age of 83 years. Born at Ramea NL, Elsie was the daughter of the late Gordon and Agnes Crewe, she was predeceased by her husband Gilbert Matthews, daughter Aneitha Kettle, brothers William Crewe, Ward Crewe and Benjamin Crewe. Left to mourn with many fond and precious memories of a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend are her children: Gordon (Phyllis), Blanche (Clarence) Kettle all of Port aux Basques, Marcella (Roland) Ralph Truro NS, Claude (Joanne), Aiden (Marilyn), Kathleen (Terry) Buchanan all of Port aux Basques, Norman (Margaret) St. John's NL, Raymond (Nancy) Port aux Basques, Marina (Wade) Dean Victoria NL; grandchildren: Stephen (Amanda), Paul (Jenna), Mark (Kerry), Karen (Eric), Kayla (Justin), Tracy Porter, Stephen Porter, Colin (Melanie), Randy (Jane), Kenneth (Rachel), Alicia (Colin), Jason (Sheila) Dean, Jolene Dean (Devon); great grandchildren: Ryan, Liam, Madison, Cash, AJ, Addison, Johnathon, Jordan, Courtney, Lucas, Landon, Jordan, Noah, Rachel, sister Blanche (Tom) Pink Deer Lake; brother in law Fred Matthews; sisters in law: Susie Kettle, Flora Crewe, Agnes Crewe; son in law Stuart Kettle, home care workers Leona Kendall, Irene Musseau and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many friends. Visitation took place on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Thursday, January 31, 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Grand Bay officiated by Rev. Clayton Billard, interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill.
