MacDonald, William Stewart “Bill”: It is with great sadness the family of William Stewart “Bill” MacDonald of Truro, announce his passing on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Truro he was the son of the late Charles B. and Muriel (Crowe) MacDonald. Bill was a talented blacksmith and welder. As a young man he worked for the Dominion Atlantic Railway in Windsor and Yarmouth and then locally with the late Malcolm Lavers. He retired in 2001 after 33 years with Bagnell’s Cleaners/Inland Oil. Bill was an avid reader with a thirst for knowledge and was always interested in learning more about the world around him. He enjoyed travelling extensively both for business and pleasure. He was always one for a road trip whether travelling the back roads of Nova Scotia or across the country. After retirement, Bill enjoyed working with his hands and creating many iron, wood, and gem crafts which he generously gifted to family and friends. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Mineral and Gem Society. Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanetta (Herring), daughter, Judi (Glen MacKenzie), Pleasant Valley, son, Charles (Rhonda), Truro, granddaughter, Janica MacKenzie, Halifax, sister, Shirley Parliament (Vic), Dartmouth, nieces, nephews, and many cousins. Friends are invited to share their memories of Bill with his family during visitation 6-8pm Sunday, February 3, and funeral service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held 2pm Monday, February 4, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, with Pastor Cory Somers officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment will be at Old Barns Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Pastor Cory Somers and Sue Gibbon and the Palliative Care team for their exceptional care.
