POIRIER, LEO JOSEPH - It is with great sadness that the family of Leo J. Poirier announce his peaceful passing at Brunswick Hall, Shannex in Fredericton, NB on February 3, 2013. He was born October 21, 1917 in Cheticamp, NS to the late Peter Poirier and Marie Aucoin and was married for 50 years to the late Alice Grant (December 1994). Dad was a Civil Engineer and graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University and lived and worked in Montreal until he moved to Fredericton, NB in 2004 where he joined the Fredericton Golden Club and Stepping Stone Singers. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage. A kind and gentle man, Dad will be missed by his loving children Leona (Ted) Kay of Fredericton, NB, Elaine (John) Arkwright, of Cornwall, Ont. and Steven (Vicki) Poirier of Thornbury/Toronto, Ont. His grandchildren Scott (Kelly) Kay, Lisa (Stephen) MacKenzie, Robyn (Andrew) MacKenzie, Jason (Melissa Campeau ) Joubert, Lyanne (Chris St. Jacques) Joubert, Bryan (Kim Whitebean) Joubert, Christine (Mark) Porter and Carolyn Poirier and great-grandchildren Garrett, Brett, Grant, Jack, Kate and Braxton. Also surviving are his siblings Sr. Rita Poirier, Joseph and Emanuel Poirier, his brother-in-law Thomas (Yolande) Grant and sister-in-law Pauline Roche and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents he was predeceased by his brother Hubert and sisters Cecile, Mina and Annie Rose. Special thanks to Dr. Ann Colpitts and the Staff at Brunswick Hall for their excellent care given to Dad in his final days.
By request there will be no visitation. A private mass and burial will take place in Dorval, Quebec at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bishop’s Funeral Home (458-1885).
