TAUPO, NEW ZEALAND – Ralph James DeYoung, 78, Taupo, New Zealand, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 22, 2010 at home.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Joseph H. and Mary Jane (Benoit) DeYoung.
He attended St. John’s Academy, New Glasgow and after leaving school worked at several farms on Big Island. Due to few employment opportunities, he left New Glasgow in February 1955 to begin a new life in New Zealand.
Surviving are his wife, Bubbie; children: Rhonda, Mary Jane, Anthony, Victor, Johnny, twins Richard and Tim, all of New Zealand; sister, Blanche Fraser, New Glasgow; brother, Elmer (Ann) DeYoung, New Glasgow; sisters-in-law, Chris DeYoung, Stellarton; Gloria DeYoung, Salt Springs; brother-in-law, Mike Sager, Westville; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Ralph Jr.; sisters: Margaret Phalen, Alice Best, Dollena Stewart, Jean Clyburne, Agnes Sutherland and Cecilia Sager; brothers: Joseph, Louis, Bert, John, Pat, Wally and Frank.
Funeral service will be held in New Zealand.
