ELINOR COX
Passed on: January 21st, 2013
Elinor Cox passed away peacefully on January 21, 2013 at the age of 83. Elinor was born in Victoria, BC to Grace and Leslie Cox. After public school she took a secretarial course and worked in Victoria and Calgary. In 1956 she entered the United Church Training School (now called "The Centre for Christian Studies"). After graduation she worked as Christian Education Director in Kindersley, Calgary, Toronto and Winnipeg, and then in full pastoral ministry in Flin Flon, Imperial and Kelvington. Elinor is predeceased by her parents, brothers Allan and Kenneth and sister-in-law Margo (Allan). She was a devoted aunt to nieces Nancy, Christine and Amanda, and nephews David and Stephen: grand-nieces and nephews: Buck, Louis, Wendy, Margo, Emily, Sophie, Faeron and Liam. Following her retirement, Elinor enjoyed doing many things she did not have time to do when she was working. She volunteered with Home Care, tutored reading students, joined the Prairie Pens writing group, worked at Parson's Pantry, belonged to the Outreach Committee, and took the occasional church service and wedding. She enjoyed knitting prayer shawls, making quilts, and crafts, and writing (especially poetry). She sometimes referred to retirement as "re-tired-ment". In later years health issues slowed her down to some degree, but did not dampen her faith, sense of humour, or commitment to justice for all people.
Elinor’s family would like to thank her friends at St. Andrew’s United Church for the fellowship she treasured and shared with them, Dawnica and Fred for their steadfast support and many kindnesses and Dr. A. Van Heerden (Mrs.) for her compassion and wonderful care.
The Celebration of Elinor’s life will be held at St.Andrew’s United Church, on Friday February 8, 2013 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Jim Tenford will officiate. In living memory of Elinor, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register book at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
