LILLIAN McGILLIVRAY

Lillian McGillivray (nee Bruce) passed away on February 4, 2013. Lillian was born December 30, 1918 on the family farm in the Tuxford District. She received her schooling at Blofield School and Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw. Lillian then attended Normal School and taught in rural one-room schools. On June 30, 1940 she married her love, Melvin McGillivray. She is survived by daughter Peggy (Art) Quinney and granddaughters Tricia and Marla (John); and daughter Roberta (Jim) Passmore and grandchildren Carla (Lee), Crystal (Lanny), Chad (Tabatha); step-grandchildren Michelle and Jamie (Trisha); eight great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Thora Bruce, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 71 years Melvin; her parents, Robert and Emily Bruce; sister Margaret Story and brothers Stuart and Lloyd Bruce. Mel and Lillian lived in Moose Jaw following marriage; farmed in Stelcam and Belbeck areas; later retiring to Moose Jaw. Lillian was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was an excellent homemaker, gardener and an adventuresome cook. She was a true partner on the family farm. Over the years Lillian was active in her local community organizations and with St. Andrews United Church. In retirement, Lillian participated in bowling and lawn bowling. Lillian and Mel enjoyed camping and travelling with family and friends. She took great joy from family gatherings particularly with her grandchildren and their families. She will be remembered for her great meals, caring for others, her sense of humour, her ready smile and her love for Mel and her family. The family wishes to thank the staff at Moose Jaw Extendicare for the care provided for Lillian and the support to the family. No flowers please. A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date. For those so wishing, memorial donations may be made to Extendicare Resident Council, or to a charity of choice.
