Reid, Gertrude “Joanâ€, 86, Debert, passed away suddenly at home on January 22, 2010. Born in Masstown, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Winnifred (Smith) Leben. Joan loved many activities, including dancing with Roy, quilting, puzzles, and knitting, having knit many newborn hats for the Colchester Regional Hospital nursery. Joan also was the owner of Rainbow House Craft Shop in Debert for many years. She is survived by her partner of 17 years, Roy Webb; daughter, Susan (Barry) MacKenzie, Truro; sons, Gregory (Patricia), Sydney, Australia; Michael (Darlene), Debert; Roy’s children, daughters Brenda Black, Debert; Patricia (Glenn) MacDonald, Onslow Mountain; sons, Stephen (Luella), Shubenacadie; Randy (Donna), Debert; Stacy (Monica), Sarasota, Florida; Derek (Shawnn), Debert; sister Gwen (Don) MacKay; grandchildren, Adrienne, Sara, Charlotte, Cindy, Joanne, Julie, Justin, Kati, Kyle; several step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jesse; several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her husband Ulric Reid; four sons in infancy; sisters, Elizabeth Vance, Audrey Close, Shirley Thompson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 26th from 7-9 pm, with funeral service on Wednesday, January 27th at 10 am, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, with Rev. Don MacQueen officiating. Interment in the Debert Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #106, Debert and the Debert United Church.
