It is with deep regret that we the family announce the passing of Mary MacDonald on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late David and Mary (Madden) Slaney.
Mary was a member St. Anthony Daniel Church and the CWL. She was employed as a waitress at the Diane Suite, and the New Moon until her retirement. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing and working in her yard. She loved watching hockey and baseball. Mary enjoyed the outdoors as well as dancing, skating and was an avid bowler. The little things in life, they meant a lot to her. Mary was an animal lover. She was a kind and loving person who will be sadly missed.
Mary is survived by her children, Rita MacDonald, Theresa Marie (Matthew) Jacobs, Joan Martin and Jimmy MacDonald, all of Sydney; her four loving grandsons, Shaun (Nadine) Newell, Yukon Territories, Chris Newell, Sydney, Brad (Catherine) Jacobs, Halifax, Philip Jr. Martin; her four precious great-grandsons, Thomas, Luke, Reece and Ira. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Lorett MacDonald, Ethel (Fred) Martin; her son-in-law, Philip Martin as well as her furry friends, Little Bear and Lucky.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold MacDonald, daughter, Mary Ethel MacDonald, brother, James Slaney, companion and friend, John ‘Jack’’’ Steele.
Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 25 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the funeral home chapel, with Fr. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
