Beverly MacKay
Beverly Louise (Prokaska) MacKay, passed away February 14, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital after a very courageous battle with encephalitis and cancer with her loving family by her side.
Born in Antigonish on July 11, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Edith (Kennedy) Prokaska.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, sister and personal advisor to all her “family”.
She was Dee Dee to her grandsons whom she loved dearly. She served as the family matriarch to her extended family, helping each of them throughout their lives.
Born in Antigonish, she attended school in Port Hawkesbury, moving to New Glasgow in 1966 where she raised her family. She was a member of Trinity United Church, Beta Sigma Phi, volunteering with many organizations such as the Y, Cubs, Children’s Aid Society, Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary, Palliative Care Society and anything her children were involved in.
She is survived by her loving husband Wilfred Cameron MacKay, children Craig (Gayle Trotter), Thorold, ON; Jill (Gary) Cameron, MacLellan’s Brook; Dean, Abercrombie; grandsons: Cameron MacKay, Chase and Bryden Cameron, sisters Glenda (Billy Joe) MacLean, Port Hawkesbury; Doris (Joe) MacEachern, Cape George; brothers Donald (Maureen), Auld, ON; Alex (Pernell) Blake, Dartmouth; brother-in-law Edward (Diane) MacKay, Port Hawkesbury; sisters-in-law Linda (Clarence) Johnson, Halifax; Marie (Bill) Davis, Troy; special cousins John (Kathy) Kennedy, Alberta; Faith (Paul) Jost, ON; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, step-father John H. Auld and daughter-in-law Elizabeth MacKay.
Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Trinity United Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Norman Marple presiding. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial at a later date in the Abercrombie Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Beverly may be made to the Pictou County Special Olympics or to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital.
At this time, the family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Pictou County VON as well as to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital for all their care and concern shown to Beverly and the family during her sickness.
