Alma Hawkes

HAWKES, ALMA - Alma Anne Hawkes, wife of Andrew Hawkes of Blackville NB, passed away in the Miramichi Regional Hospital, surrounded by family, on February 19th 2013. Alma was born in Pineville NB on May 6th 1943, the daughter of the late Weldon and Annie (Kehoe) McEvoy. After high school in Blackville, Alma worked as a dark room technician and telephone operator in Fredericton. Later she was employed for many years in the Montgomery-Ward department store in Clearwater FL. As a result of her husband’s career she traveled the world and has lived in Montreal, St. John’s and Stephenville NL, Calgary, Kingston (Jamaica), Clearwater FL, Manila (Philippines), Mumbai (India), Knapphill (England), Roswell GA and Halifax NS. Besides her husband, Alma is survived by her daughter Angela (Michael Martykan) of Brandon FL, two sons, Christopher (Kathyrn) of Palm Harbor FL and Daniel (Tammy) of Pinellas Park FL, one grandson Zachary Hawkes, one step-grandson Tyler Martykan, two sisters, Carmel McEvoy of San Francisco and Shirley Lee (John) of Moncton NB, two brothers, Tony (Catherine) of Renous NB and Weldon Jr. (Susan) of Blackville, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Alma was predeceased by her sister Glenna and her brothers Lloyd (Burnice) and Peter.
Alma Anne Hawkes is resting at Father Murdock Memorial Room, Renous, with visitation from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. and 7:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. on Sunday, February 24th 2013. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 25th at 11 a.m. in St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church, with Monsignor Joseph Woods officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alma’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
