HAMMOND, Mark, age 79 years of Climax, SK, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Mark, the youngest of eight children, was born at Climax on August 27, 1933 to Robert and Sarah Hammond. He received his education in the Stone District. He married Josie Klassen at Beaver Flat on May 3, 1953. Mark spent his whole life on the farm at Climax, beginning his own trucking business, Mark Hammond Cattle Liners, in 1958. He raised cattle and had a special fondness for horses. He loved rodeos, Christian Cowboy Church and family reunions. He loved to tell trucking stories, and visit with family, friends and neighbours. He was predeceased by his wife Josie on April 22, 2008, his son-in-law Jack Morrell on August 4, 2001, his sisters and brothers Irene Fernquist, Ernest Hammond, Erma Klassen, Doris Elhard, Bob Hammond and Naomi Bourke. Mark is survived by his daughter Sharon Morrell of Parker, SD and grandsons Colton, Cruz (great granddaughter MiAnna) and Kyle; his daughter Ida Vander Vorst (Tim) of Mound City, SD; grandchildren Ashley Hammond (Heather), (great grandchildren Trey, Heidi and Maci), Sarah Vander Vorst and Wyatt Vander Vorst; his daughter Brenda Hammond of Red Deer and grandchildren Jason, Jared, Chad (Brianna) and Shaylena; his son Errol (Wendy) of Shaunavon and grandchildren Riley and Taylor; and his daughter Yvonne Jensen (Larry) of Climax; his brother Harley Hammond (Louise) of Tofield, AB, his brother-in-law Ernie Klassen, in BC, his sister-in-law Lillian Hammond of Shaunavon, brother-in-law Ellsworth Johnson in Alberta and sister-in-law Florence (Jack) Schultz of Winnipeg; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from Christ the King Church in Shaunavon with Pastor Bill Klumpenhower officiating. The opening prayer and reading of the obituary was by Tim Vander Vorst. Bob Bourke presented the eulogy. The Scripture reading was done by Sam Wiens. Harley Hammond sang “Until Then” accompanied by his wife Louise Hammond on the piano. Piano solos were performed by Kyle Morrell and Robin Schatz. The Guest Book attendant was Shaylena Hammond. Ushers were Garry Fandrich, Robert Peskleway and Justin Bolton. The pianist was Robin Schatz. Interment took place at Climax Cemetery, Climax. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons Ashley Hammond, Jason Hammond, Jared Hammond, Chad Hammond, Riley Hammond, Wyatt Vander Vorst, Kyle Morrell and great grandson Trey Hammond.
