Betty Martha Georgette (nee Lawson) Anderson
Born in Greenwich, London, June 20, 1929, died peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre, February 26, 2013. Her family would like to thank: her longtime doctor, Mary Watson, in particular; the superb staff and her friends at Kenny’s Pond Retirement Residence; and, the doctors and nurses at the HSC for their tremendous care and kindness. Betty was predeceased by her mother Sylvia, father Thomas, sister Iris, eldest son Neil, and, her loving husband Michael Marchmont Anderson. Betty leaves to mourn her daughter Ann (Jim Payne); son Andrew Duncan (Molly Ho Yuet Han), Hong Kong; grandchildren Kaya Payne and Douglas Anderson; brother Peter Lawson (Shirley) and family, London, UK; brother-in-law Donald (Lorna), Torquay, UK; Ian Anderson (Julie), Southampton, UK; and, Jennie Wildey (Keith), Ibiza, Spain. A generous and loving spirit, and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Betty was a real trooper who always looked for the positive in people and life. Following a stressful childhood separation from her parents in London during her WWII evacuation to Wales, Betty dedicated over 35 years to teaching, focusing on special education. She received her teaching credentials from Stockwell College, University of London, and MUN. Betty taught at schools in London; Freetown, Sierra Leone; St. John’s and Mount Pearl until retiring in 1989. Active with The Y, The Positive Thinkers Club, Toastmasters, and Tai Chi, Betty later enjoyed many activities at Kenny’s Pond, especially yoga and bus rides around the Avalon. Betty specifically requested no service or flowers. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.cauls.ca.
