William Emberley

Born: March 6th, 1937

Passed on: March 2nd, 2013

WILLIAM (BILL) CHESLEY EMBERLEY, just shy of his 76th birthday (March 6, 1937), passed to his new life with our Heavenly Father on March 2, 2013. His earthly pain and suffering having ended, he was greeted by his daughter Winnie Bell (1970 – 76), parents Joseph and Winnifred Emberley; and five siblings in the presence of Jesus.

William is survived by his loving Family: wife Eileen and children, Gina (Chesley) Shave; Donna Emberley; Marcus (Karen) Emberley; Paul Emberley; Wilf (Rhonda) Emberley. Loved also by his 11 grandchildren: Steven, Nicola, Cole, Matthew, Andrew, Kelly, Breeanna, Victoria, Joshua, Rachael and Kelsey, and two great-grandchildren Jemma & Jayden. William is also survived by four siblings Hilda Furey (Frank), Marion (Howard) Decker, Elsie (Lindsay) Duffitt, & Pastor David (Sandra) Emberley; and in-laws Carrie (Roland) Stuckless, Reuben (Violet) Rogers, Gerald (Donna) Rogers, as well as a large circle of family and friends.

William was born and grew up in Creston North, NL, where he had many treasured memories of the people and events of his childhood. As a young man, William worked for 5 years on the ships with his father in the foreign trade, trips that took him as far as Central America and Panama. Once married in 1961, William settled in Creston South, NL, and got involved in the operation of heavy equipment. This included such employment as Heavy Equipment Operator in Churchill Falls, road construction on the Burin Peninsula, St. Lawrence mine, and over 30 years as Crane Operator with the Marystown Shipyard.

Known to be a hard worker who earned the respect of his peers, William’s life proved more than just work. He enjoyed spending time with this family, guitar, camping, troutin’, cheering on his hockey team, the Detroit Red Wings, speed boat, and traveling. His “road trip of a lifetime” happened in 1999 when he first retired that took him and Eileen across Canada, up to Alaska, through BC. The trip continued down through the USA, where he visited sites and monuments dedicated to his love of the old west before returning home to Newfoundland; a total of 22,000 km and 12 weeks.

On the spiritual side, William strived to live his life according to the word of God. He realized the importance of passing a Christian heritage on to his children. He trusted God for all his needs and kept the faith through many sorrows and difficulties. Though he did not consider himself to be a perfect person, he remains an inspiration too many. He will be forever loved and missed!

2 Tim. 4: 6 – 8, “…the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing”.

William’s life and legacy was celebrated in a service at Calvary Pentecostal Church, Creston North, NL, on Tuesday, March 5, at 2:00 p.m. Interment followed at Calvary Pentecostal Church Cemetery.

No flowers by request of the family.
