It is with great sorrow that the family of Levi Pike, of St. Lawrence, NL, announces his sudden passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Friday, March 1st, 2013, at eighty-nine years of age.

Levi was first and foremost a loving and dedicated husband and father. He leaves to mourn, his wife of almost 68 years, Mildred Hillier Pike. Together Levi and Mildred raised, with unconditional love and devotion, 11 children. Left to mourn with Mildred are their children, of whom he was so very proud; Maxine (Rene) Fowler and Violet (Gerald) Fitzpatrick of St. Lawrence, NL, Diane (Brian) Campbell of Conception Bay South, NL, Marlene Pike (Robert Parizeau) of Kitchener ON, Connie Pike (Sean Roche) of Conception Bay South, NL, Donna (Steve) McCullough of Red Lake, ON, Deborah Pike of Halifax NS, Catherine (Cate) Pike of Dartmouth NS, Valerie Pike (Mark Lavin) of Saint John NB, and his only living son, Levi Pike Jr. of Conception Bay South, NL. Also mourning Levi’s precious life; 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, all of whom he loved and adored. In sadness, his remaining siblings Freda, Margaret, Marion, Charles, Sandra, Vera, and Linda also mourn. Levi was predeceased by his first son Perry (1967), along with his parents, Charles James Pike and Emma Blanche Blagdon Pike, sisters Selina Ivy (Lucy), Berdina Elizabeth (Betty), Violet, Stella and brother John.

Levi was an avid and loyal listener of CBC radio, a passionate reader, an avid hiker, a consummate advocate for his community, and hero to many. He is remembered as a loving Christian, who was involved and respected in the Newfoundland political scene for many years, as he loved his majestic homeland. Levi’s most precious legacy was his demonstrated commitment to his family. His message, gentle and adamant, has been and will remain one of love, hope, humor, knowledge, and commitment to each other. He will remain adored and respected by many, and his memory will always be cherished. A philosopher once said “humility + wonder = wisdom.” That would be Levi.

The service of celebration and thanksgiving for Levi ‘s life, along with a Christian burial took place on Tuesday, March 5th, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in St. Lawrence NL. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted for St. Matthew’s Anglican Church.
