Peter, 84, died peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Debert Court, Debert, NS.
Born in Victoria, BC Peter was the son of the late Isabel (Neal) and Thomas Buckerfield Dixon.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Norma (nee Williams), Debert, daughter Susan (Nelson), son Peter, Truro, grandchildren Nicholas and Allison, Calgary and brother Ted, Invermere, BC., several cousins in Great Britain.
After spending his youth in BC, Peter joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on several ships as a leading seaman ending his Navy Career stationed at Stadacona.
Peter worked for Scotia Flour & Feed Wholesalers in Halifax for most of his working life. He took an early retirement moving to Truro to be close to his grandchildren.
Peter was a well-read, self-educated man. He enjoyed learning new things from Tai Chi to Yoga. He was a avid bowler even up until his last days with the Debert Court Bowlers, and was always ready for a Sunday outing with his son. An undefeated Trivial Pursuit contender and a Survivor of several ‘Nasty Nutby’ foot races, Peter was known for his dry sense of humour and was always ready to share a bad joke.
He was a familiar face at Jim’s Place (Heritage Café) on Prince Street for many years.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Serenity Lindsay Funeral Homes. A private family memorial service will be held at Debert Court 11 am Saturday, March 9th with Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating, assisted by Reverend David MacNaughton. A reception with light refreshments and memories for friends will follow at SOUP Café, 563 Prince Street, Truro from 2-4 pm.
As Peter was a faithful member of First United Church for many years, donations made in his memory to the church would be most welcome, if so desired. http://firstunitedtruro.ca/.
The family wish to thank the management and staff of Debert Court and Dr. Altenkirk for their outstanding care and compassion during this final year of his life spent with them.
