We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Zelma Kibyuk our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Zelma passed away at her residence on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010.
Born in Glace Bay, June 20, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret (Leonard) Prendergast.
Zelma started her career at the Glace Bay Heavy Water Plant until its closure. She also was employed at Micro Nav for several years until its closure. Zelma moved to New Brunswick for a period of time and returned to Cape Breton in 2008. Her greatest joy in life was becoming a grandmother to Samantha and a wonderful mother to her two daughters. She will always be remembered for her great laugh, love of her family and the pride of being a grandmother. Zelma enjoyed spending time with her best friend and sister, Barbara. They spent many days shopping or just going for drives.
Zelma will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Bo Kibyuk; two loving daughters, Connie (Tony) Cribb, Newfoundland, and Patricia (Mike) MacDonald, Glace Bay; sister and best friend, Barbara (Kevin) MacMullin; two nieces, Shauna (Jason) Ratchford, Sydney, Janet (Neal) MacMullin, Halifax; nephew, Kevin James MacMullin, Glace Bay; and one cherished granddaughter, Samantha MacDonald.
Besides her parents, Zelma was predeceased by her brother, William, in infancy.
Visitation for Zelma Kibyuk will be held Tuesday, Feb. 2, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Black Brook.
