Angus MacLean

Born In: Sydney Mines

Passed on: March 4th, 2013

“A life well-lived is a life remembered with love,” and so, we honour and celebrate the life of Angus Wilson MacLean, who passed away in Halifax on March 4, 2013, after a brief illness.
Angus was born in Sydney Mines. A devoted family man and loyal friend, he was well-known and well-liked by everyone he met from Devco to the local corner store. An interesting man with a thirst for learning, Angus adored books, pouring over newspapers, and a good talk about politics should the occasion arise. Though well-travelled, he loved his Cape Breton home. He enjoyed drives around the Island, spending time with his cherished family, and walking his beloved dogs, Lola and Charlie along Point Aconi.
A true family man, Angus adored his wife of 43 years, Glenda and took great comfort in her steady faith and constant love. He was incredibly proud of his children, his son, Angus, an RCMP constable in Kitimat, B.C. was his father’s pride and joy; his beautiful and talented daughter, Meghan was his princess and heart’s delight.
Known and respected as a hard worker, Angus entered the workforce at 14. He worked a variety of jobs and found his time working as a stationary engineer for Gulf Oil particularly satisfying. He finished his career as a deputy mine examiner for Devco.
Angus is survived by his wife, Glenda (nee Ramsay); his children, Angus MacLean (Kimberley) of Kitimat, B.C., and Meghan O’Donnell (Stuart) of Aberdeen, Scotland; his beloved stepmother, Minnie MacLean of Sydney Mines; and her children, Beverley Edwards (John Hugh), Margaret Andrews (Stewart) and Wayne Mulley (Sheila); sisters, Mora Lytus (John) of Davenport, Florida, and Jessie MacNeil (Tommy) of Georges River, N.S.; brother, Alan MacLean (Cheryl) of Rapid City, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Diane Ernst (George) of Big Bras d’Or; and many nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Angus and Ethel (nee Pinkston) MacLean and his brother, Calvin MacLean.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff who treated Angus during his recent illness. We are so moved by the outpouring of support we have received from our family, friends and co-workers. We are especially grateful to everyone who assisted Glenda in Halifax, especially our nieces, Kayla MacNeil and Sarah Ernst.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. For those wishing, donations to the Christian Children’s Fund would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” John 14:1-2.
