It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Stanley Herbert Finney, at the Northside General Hospital on Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013, with his family by his side.
Stan was born July 18, 1929 and was the son of the late Mary Ann and William Finney. Born in Sydney Mines he was the youngest of the three children.
Stan was a mine surveyor for the Dominion Coal Company and later taught Industrial Arts at Thompson Jr. High School in North Sydney until his retirement. He was also past district deputy president of the IOOF.
Stan is survived by his wife, Norma (Hull) Finney; his daughter, Sherryl Dale Finney and his son, Stanley William Finney (Edie), all of Georges River. He is also survived by one sister, Greta Brown and one brother, Leonard (Jean) Finney; as well as many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines on Sunday, March 10, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a family service held at a later date.
