It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Shirley Wilson, 71, of Glace Bay. Shirley passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital, with her family at her side.
Born in Glace Bay, Shirley was the daughter of the late Angus and Carmella (McGillivary) Boyd.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport.
Shirley was employed at Mendelson’s Variety Mart, Co-op and Sobeys grocery stores over the years.
She enjoyed baking for her family and friends. In her earlier years she spent the summers at her cottage and had a great sense of humour. Shirley loved her children and grandchildren.
Shirley will be sadly missed by her daughters, Kim, North Sydney, Karen (Randy) Lushman, Dartmouth; son, Knodell (Annie), Abbotsford, B.C.; sister, Mary Gouthro, Glace Bay; four cherished grandsons; as well as nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Knodell in 2008.
The family are honouring Shirley’s wishes. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will be held in the church hall.
