Passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving daughter, Denise, at the Health Sciences Centre, March 5, 2013 after a brief illness, Raymond J. Gendreau. June 7, 1931-March 5, 2013. Predeceased by wife Mabel (Cobb), Dec. 9, 2011, son Horrace, December 29, 2006, son Noel, August 24, 2012, brothers, Maurice, Lucien, Paul, Gerard, Jacques, sister Denise, parents Mary Anne, and Horrace Gendreau. Leaving to cherish his memories are: Denise Crane (Gary), Roger (Kim), Mary Anne (Derek); sisters: Simonne Vallee (Prudent), Laura, Theresa, Alice; brothers: Marcel ( Louiselle), Louis (Danielle); brother-in-law Fred Cobb (Eva); sister-in-law Doris Dobbin (Gerald); grandchildren: Tony Gendreau (Jessica), Gary Crane (Darlene), Lisa Crane, Tania and Brendan Gendreau, Barbra Mcaubey (Kevin), Crystal, Amanda. Gendreau, Raymond Gendreau Jr.; great-grandchildren: Aidan, Austin, Anthony, HalleyAnn Gendreau, Morgan, Emma, Lucas Crane, Grant, Destiny, Luke Mcaubey. Raymond was born in St. George’s, Quebec and came to Bell Island Jan. 1953 to work in the mines as a master electrician. It was here that he met the love of his life, Mabel Cobb and they were happily married Nov. 25, 1953. Bell Island was home for 60 years. He was a dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Knights of Columbus, The Lions Club, the R.C. School Board and served as a councillor for 2 terms and as Mayor for 1 term of the Town of Wabana and volunteered on many other committees. The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. Alexis Laurie of the Walter Templeton Hospital, The Doctors and Nursing Staff of the Health Science Center of 5 South A and CCU for their professional care. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Pendergast’s Funeral Home, Bell Island. At Raymond’s request cremation has taken place. Visiting hours are Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will take place Monday, March 11 @ 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Parish. Inurnment to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made to St. Michael’s Parish.
