Born: April 5th, 1935

Passed on: February 11th, 2013

77 of Stittsville, Ontario, with his loving family at his side, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2013. Born and raised in St. John’s, he was the son of the late Arthur and Susan (Butt) Stoyles. Gord was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He joined the Canadian Army in 1956 first serving with the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), then with the Medical Corps and finally retiring in Ottawa as an Administrative Clerk in 1990. Gord’s distinguished career saw him proudly serve his country in many postings throughout Canada, overseas in Lahr, Germany and with the UNDOF Peacekeeping force in the Golan Heights. A man of simple needs, he always placed an importance on family and enjoyed his children and their achievements in life. Gord’s busy retirement was filled with many home improvement projects, woodworking, camping and travelling to visit family. He loved music, especially singing and playing traditional Newfoundland songs on his accordions and harmonicas. Gord is sadly missed by his beloved wife of 54 years, Daisy (nee Bishop); sons: Wayne (Kelly), Craig (Herta) and daughter Denise Penney (Craig); brothers: Melvin (Irene), Don (Claudine), Arthur, David, Edward and Robert; sisters: Lorraine Wegener (Al), Barbara and Carol Chafe (Ken); grandchildren: Christine, Matthias (Justine), Geoffrey (Melody), Bryan, Steven (Calla), Andreas, Shane and Dayle; great-grandchildren: Jayden and Carson; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Clifford (Jean) in 2006. Cremation has taken place and donations in the memory of Gord can be made to the heart and stroke foundation.
