Lloyd Payne - Born March 1, 1929 passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday March 4, 2013 at Prairie Pioneers Lodge. The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Friday March 08, 2013, from Warren's Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ruth McArthur officiating. The private internment service will be held
at a later date. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Julie (Julien), son Lloyd Jr., granddaughters Kristen and Erin, sister Vivian, brothers Carson, Dalton, Rodney as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Hazel, sisters Isabel, Bernice, Evelyn and Minn. Lloyd attended school in the Swift Current area. He married Hazel Hodgson on July 30, 1955. He started his working career at Eatons. His next job was with Acme Electric during which time he studied at home and eventually obtained his journeyman electrician's certification. After a number of years with Reeder Electric he hired on with Reda Pump until his retirement in 1992. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Elks Club where he volunteered his skills as an electrician and handyman. Lloyd and Hazel built their own home in 1957 where they lived and raised their family until such time as their health deteriorated and they required supportive living arrangements. In his younger years, he was a skilled hockey player with the Swift Current Indians and the Oldtimers. His love of music originated at home, then as his role as drum major with the Swift Current Boys Band. He played the mouth organ throughout his entire life, often entertaining family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at the Prairie Pioneers Lodge for their ongoing compassionate care during Dad's final years. His independent personality could be challenging at times, but was handled with patience and dignity. They would also like to thank Tom Lovestone, his lifelong friend of 70 years for his ongoing support and loyalty, especially during the last several years of Dad's life. Donations to the Prairie Pioneers Lodge Auxiliary, Alzheimer unit, c/o 498 Steele Crescent, Swift Current would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
