It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear aunt, Johanna MacDonald, on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Scotch Lake, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Mary Agnes (MacLeod) MacDonald.
Johanna had been employed as a switchboard operator at St. Rita Hospital in Sydney for several years. She later would move to Boston, where she would spend the next 40 years working with Kemper Life Insurance Company, before retiring back to Cape Breton.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Johanna is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth in infancy and Mary Landrigan; by her brothers, Michael, Malcolm, Neil and John.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass and burial will take place at a later date.
