FREDRICK WEYS
Born In: Danville, Quebec, Canada
Born: August 5th, 1925
Passed on: March 6th, 2013
It is with sadness that our family announces the death of Fred Weys at the age of 87. He passed away suddenly, at home on the evening of March 6th, with his wife and family by his side.
Fred was born in Danville Quebec, raised in Vancouver, and moved to Kamloops at age 20, where he met and married Rowna McMillan. They were married 61 years. He was a loving husband and father. They had nine children: Joyce, Gale, Dianne (Michael Weddell), Denice, Paul (Kristina), Janice, Carol, Peter and Monica (David Edwards); sixteen grandchildren: Nicole, John, Clayton, Sarah, Tara-Lynn, Melissa, Hilary, Ryan, Sonya, Heather, Tasha, Theresa, Evan, Alanna, Jade, and Kathleen; six great-grandchildren: Michael, Alex, Ginger, Logan, Asher and Myles. He is also survived by his siblings: Ted (Margaret) Weys and Marlene (Tony) Freeman, as well as a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
We are our Father's garden,
We are his legacy.
~ From Our Father Kept A Garden, Anonymous
Fred was predeceased by his three daughters: Joyce (1982), Gale (1973) and Monica (2008), his parents, Bernarda and Klaus Weys and brothers Hank, Roy, Vic and Albert and sister Nellie.
Upon arriving in Kamloops, Fred's family lived and worked on the farm at the Tranquille TB Centre. Later, he worked as a truck driver and a construction worker, but was best known for his years in the retail building industry. He played baseball, volleyball and badminton with vigor in his younger days. Later in life, he played bridge, competing at the BC Seniors Games in 1999. He had a passion for golf, and took great pleasure in beating all takers at crib.
A reception to remember Fred will be held on Friday, March 15th, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Mulberry Room at the North Shore Community Centre, 730 Cottonwood Ave.
Flowers are gratefully declined, but if friends so desire a donation to Canadian Diabetes Association or to Kamloops Hospice would be appreciated.
