RIVERTON – It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Jean, at the age of 80 in the Valley View Villa, Riverton, on January 29, 2010.
Born in Riverton, she was a daughter of the late Mary Bell (Fraser) and Mowatt MacKay of Riverton.
Jean had a great sense of humour and was happiest spending time with her treasured family and friends. Jean had many interests and hobbies. Church and her faith were a big part of her life. Many church groups and community organizations benefited from her hours of endless volunteering.
In her younger years, Jean played softball and later in life she enjoyed curling, golfing and bowling with her husband Jack. Besides growing and building relationships, she spent hours beautifying her surroundings, whether it be in Stellarton, Sinclair’s Island or Riverton. Jean’s selflessness was always evident in the many ways she touched the lives of others. She was a true and devoted friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jean will be greatly missed by her daughter, Marion MacKay, Riverton; and her son, Paul (Karen) Kerr, New Glasgow; she will be fondly remembered by her precious grandchildren, Vanessa (Jack) Youssef, Fredericton; Krista (Jamie) MacIntosh, Westville; Jonathan Kerr, New Glasgow (currently Hawaii). Memories of Jean will be passed on to her great-grandchildren: Emma, Avery and Oliver.
Jean is survived by sisters, Anna MacKay, Riverview, N.B.; Evelyn Van t’ Riet, White Rock, BC; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Bill (Marilyn) Kerr of Halifax/Florida; Scott Kerr of Toronto
Jean was predeceased by her devoted husband of 57 years, Jack; sisters: Marjorie MacKay, Helen MacIntosh, Laura McQueen, Charlotte (Maude) Wood and Mary Settle; brothers: Andrew, Robert, James, Walker and Frank.
Special thanks to the staff of Valley View Villa for the care and compassion shown to Jean during her stay.
Visitation was held Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Family service and burial will be held at a later date.
Family flowers only. Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Society, the Bible Society, Valley View Villa or to a charity of one’s choice.
