D. Ross Townsend
Born In: Sydney
Born: January 23rd, 1928
Passed on: March 10th, 2013
It is with great sadness that David and Patricia announce the passing of their father D. Ross Townsend on March 10, 2013 at Ocean View Continuing Care Centre in Eastern Passage, N.S.
Dad was born in Sydney on Jan. 23, 1928, the son of George and Lena (Thompson) Townsend. He was a kind and caring person who always had time for his family and friends and was well known for his sense of humour. We are truly grateful for the time that we had with dad.
He is survived by his children, David (Colleen) Eastern Passage; Patricia, Halifax; granddaughter, Tara Myra and his precious great-grandchildren, Haley and Jacob of Eastern Passage; sister-in-law, Jean Townsend of Sydney, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan (MacDonald) who he truly adored and his siblings, Parker, Marion, Fredrick (Freddie), Gerald (Gerry), and Edith.
Dad adored his family, focusing his love on his wife and children. Dad began his career with the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in Sydney moving to Halifax in 1969 where for the next 26 years he remained with the audit team travelling throughout Nova Scotia. Since his youth, dad was an avid bowler participating in many leagues both in Cape Breton and Halifax, and coaching his granddaughter Tara in YBC at Bayers Road Bowlarama. In retirement he enjoyed a good game of bingo and the bingo bus trips, as well as the people he met while working at the Mini Bingo at the Halifax Forum.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served on various committees at St. Pius X Church in Fairview. He resided at Ocean View for that past five and a half years. We wish to thank the remarkable staff of Harbourview, and especially “the Queen” for the kindness they have shown to dad. They are truly a remarkable group of people.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice or the Ocean View Continuing Care Foundation.
