Jean Marie MacAulay

60 years. Peacefully and surrounded by her loving family, Jean passed away at her home in Cole Harbour on March 11, 2013.
Survived by her husband, Garth; daughter, Suzanne; and son, Stephen.
Born in Arichat, Cape Breton, daughter of Leona (Martell) Poirier and the late Wilfred Poirier. Survived by her mother; twin sister, June Strachan (Walter) of Cole Harbour, and their sons, Adam and Blake Strachan; Maureen Poirier (Pierrre Plante) of Lower Sackville, and her children, Monica and Michael; Peggy Poirier (Sheldon Carter) of Timberlea; and brother, Carl Poirier (Jennifer) of Dartmouth, and their children, Charlotte and Daniel. Also survived by Garth's brothers, Paul (Rita), Ronnie (Michelle), Colin (Suzanne) all living in P.E.I.; and sisters, Ann Marie of Halifax and Marion (Phil) of Truro; as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Jean graduated from St. Francis Xavier University, Dalhousie University and Universite Sainte-Anne, and was a teacher for over 26 years in various schools in the Halifax area. A dedicated parent, Jean spent many hours with Suzanne in her dancing classes and shows, and with Stephen in hockey rinks; Suzanne and Stephen were fortunate to be living in Halifax and close to their Mom and Dad in the weeks preceding Jean's death.
Jean and her family enjoyed many summers camping at Red Point, P.E.I., and visiting friends and family throughout the Maritimes. She was a long-time member of the choir at Pope John XXIII Parish.
Cremation has taken place; funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation hours are 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 14. Funeral Mass will be held at Pope John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 35 Colby Drive, Dartmouth, on Friday, March 15, at 2 p.m.
