It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Metcalfe, age 80, of Port Morien. John passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Port Morien, John was the son of the late Steve and Annie (Goodrum) Metcalfe.
John worked on various construction job sites. He loved visiting family and friends. He had a good word for all, made many friends over the years and never thought twice to lend a helping hand to those who were in need.
John will be sadly missed by his loving companion of many years, Jean Ann (Forward) MacLeod; daughter, Cecilia (Francis) Reid, Glace Bay; sons, Paul (Paula), Blair, both of Glace Bay, Stephen, Leonard, Clifford, Sandy, all of Ontario, Jason, Glace Bay. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his first wife, Joan (Clements), brothers, Arthur, Tom, Allan, Steve, sisters, Annie and Elsie.
The family are honouring John's wishes. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation will take place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery, Black Brook.
