DOROTHY FOLEY
Passed on: March 10th, 2013
Dorothy Foley passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 10, 2013 at age 96 years.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children Harry (Mary) Foley, Brian Foley (Louise DeMarni) and Agnes Jackson, her thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Percy Foley, son-in-law Roy Jackson, daughter-in-law Linda Foley and two grandchildren.
A pioneer of the local ranching community, Dorothy lived a full life and was loving, caring and fiercely independent. She was born in the Blackwell home at Campbell Creek to Milton and Agnes (Eadie) Blackwell. She was the last survivor of her five brothers and three sisters.
She attended Normal School in Victoria and taught in numerous communities around Kamloops. Dorothy met and married local rancher Percy Foley in 1940 and they raised their children Harry, Brian and Agnes. Together, they ranched in Long Lake, Mamette Lake, Ashcroft and Cherry Creek. Dorothy was a great shot and a regular hand on the ranch tackling a never-ending list of tasks such as driving teams, harvesting grain and baking fabulous apple pies.
She was a dedicated member and leader of the Women's Institute and part of the committee in charge of producing and writing Bunchgrass to Barbed Wire. In her retirement years she enjoyed the fellowship and friendships of the Presbyterian Church, researching family history and quilting. Most of all, she took great pride in all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Many thanks to the staff at Kamloops Senior Village for the exceptional care they provided her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Schoening Funeral Home on Friday, March 15th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
