90. With great sadness but joy in his long and fruitful life, we announce the death of Archibald F. \"Archie\" Johnston. Greatly beloved husband of Elizabeth Parr-Johnston; cherished father of James Johnston (Diana), Heather Brooks (Dr. Chris), Alexandra Russell (Stephen) and Margaret Ronan (Douglas) and adored stepfather to Peter Bond and Kristina Bond (Ian). He died peacefully at home on Jan. 23, 2010, with family present.
Archie was born at Peter\'s Road, P.E.I., on March 9, 1919. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances (Haunts) and his sister, Alexandra (Milburn), and leaves 14 adored grandchildren and a large extended family who will miss him very much.
A veteran of the Second World War, he was a Captain in the Canadian Army having served with the Royal Canadian Signal Corp and was awarded a Certificate for Outstanding Good Service by the Commander-in-Chief, 21st Army Group in 1945. A 1949 Commerce Graduate of Queens University, he served his beloved Alma Mater with distinction as an alumnus becoming a winner of the Herbert J. Hamilton Award. His business career was primarily as an executive at Canadian General Electric (G.E. Canada) where he served in many capacities, retiring in 1982 as Vice-President Public Affairs and Government Relations. Active in Industry Organizations he was named Electrical Man of the Year in 1970 among other recognitions. Archie remained active throughout his entire life and enjoyed many special connections with friends of all ages.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, in Chester Basin, N.S.
