John MacLean
MacLEAN, JOHN EVERARD - 1917-2013 - Miramichi - On the afternoon of March 13, 2013, as the spring rain fell, J. Everard MacLean slipped away to be with Bertie, his bride of seventy-one years. A storyteller, a fiddler, a poet; he was a kind and patient man, faithful and steadfast - a lover of life. Born in Black River Bridge, on July 22, 1917, he was the son of the late John E. and Catherine (Watling) MacLean. He was a self employed businessman and for many years was the representative of the Fuller Brush Company and in following years, until his retirement, was the sales and service representative for Electrolux Canada Ltd. He was an active and dedicated member of St. Stephen’s United Church, Black River Bridge; a member of the church choir; a member of the original men’s quartet; a former Elder and member of Session of his church; a former member of the Board of Stewarts; a member and former Chairman of the Black River Community Cemetery Committee; a member of the N.B. Chapter of the Highland Society; a former member of the Black River Senior Citizens Club; a member of Branch #3 Royal Canadian Legion, Miramichi; a long serving member of the Miramichi Fiddlers. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays Fan. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving with the North Shore Regiment as well as the Lincoln & Welland Regiments, serving in England and France. He is survived by two daughters, Norma Williston (Frank), of Miramichi and Faye Behnsen (Gerald), of Campbell River, B.C.; one son, Roy MacLean (Mary Laura), of Miramichi; one son in law, Bud Walsh, of Miramichi; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Bertie I. MacKnight, on January 27, 2013; one daughter, Barbara Walsh; one granddaughter, Erin Behnsen; one sister, Agnes Fowlie.
Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. Stephen’s United Church, Black River Bridge, on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 2pm, conducted by Penny Postlethwaite. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery, later in the spring. Please note, members of Branch #3 Royal Canadian Legion are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Friday afternoon, at 3 pm, for a Veterans’ Service. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, the Douglas Smith Memorial Scholarship Program, St. Stephen’s United Church (General Fund), or any charity of the donors’ choice, would be appreciated by the family.
