Doris Aroda Spears
Spears, Doris Aroda - 87, Truro, passed peacefully away on March 14, 2013 in the Mira Long Term Care, Truro. Born in Upper Stewiacke, N.S. she was the last surviving member of her immediate family and the daughter of the late Melvin and Susan (Hawes) Prest. Doris was a Registered Nurse, graduating from the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax in 1948. She worked as a nurse at Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Sheet Harbour and the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. She was a member of the Truro Centennial Pool for many years and enjoyed swimming and reading. Doris had a fondness for cats and animals in general. She was a kind, quiet person and a good listener to all who knew her. She had a keen interest in Astrology and enjoyed her studies over the years. She was a long standing member of St. John's Anglican Church, Truro. She leaves to mourn her husband of 58 years, Walter and son John, both of Truro. She loved her granddaughters, Jocelyn and Julia. Besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers, Elmont, Max, Spencer, Homer and Harland, all of Upper Stewiacke. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 2 p.m. in St. John's Anglican Church, 23 Church St., Truro, Rev. Lori Ramsey and Rev. Gary Yetman officiating; reception will follow in Kaulback Hall. Interment in Terrace Hill Cemetery, Truro at a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to St. John's Anglican Church, Colchester SPCA or to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Helen Bell for the excellent care given on Doris' behalf over the years as well as to thank the nurses and staff at the Mira Long Term Care for their kindness and care during her stay with them.
