It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marjorie “Mamie” McCabe (Carleton) Munro, of Glen Haven Manor, and formerly of Dunromin Terrace, Pictou, in her 91st year.
Mamie was the daughter of the late W. Blake and Bessie (Robertson) Carleton, and was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph and Hazel (MacLean), both of Pictou.
After graduating from Pictou Academy in 1938, Mamie moved to Halifax at the ripe old age of 17 and worked for the Simpson-Sears Company during the Second World War. She is retired from Scott Maritimes Pulp Ltd., where she worked from its opening in 1965 until her retirement in 1988. She was a great lover of nature, animals, flowers, gardening and the outdoors. She loved to knit, a skill she passed to each of her five girls.
She is survived by her daughters: Dale (Kerry/Jim) Elliott, Kentville; Beth (Colin) MacNeill, Jean (Willie) Ferguson, Jackie (Scot) MacDonald, Cindy Conway, all of Pictou; grandchildren: Randy (Mikki) Elliott, Harrison, ME; Mike (Nancy Bryden) Elliott, Centreville; Meghan (Paul Williams) MacNeill, Calgary; Keely (Dan Parker) MacNeill, Calgary; Terri Ferguson, Cathy Ferguson, Blake Ferguson, Jenny Ferguson, all of Bayview; Cpl. S.M. Sara MacDonald, Petawawa; Vicki MacDonald, Pictou; Alex MacDonald, Halifax; Zack Conway, Aidan Conway, both of Pictou; great-grandchildren: Noah, Ronan, Jessie, Geordie, Ella, Erin, Payton, James, Owen, Mallie.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Monday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, from where funeral will be held in the chapel, 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Burial will be in the Seaview Cemetery.
