It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Cecil Patrick Dunphy.
Cecil passed away peacefully Feb. 2, 2010, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil's Harbour, surrounded by his loving family.
Cecil was born in Ingonish, N.S. April 1, 1930, to the late William and Christine (Hines) Dunphy.
He was a self-employed fisherman and a former employee of the Department of Transportation for 34 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s parish and a well-known face at all the local card games. Cecil loved life and was a very proud Grandpa to all the children.
Cecil is survived by his special friend and companion, Ella Barron. Cecil had four children by his former wife, Leona (Doucette) Dunphy; one son, Cecil (Colleen) Ingonish; and three daughters, Terri (Peter) Dunphy, Westmount, Joanne (James) Dunphy and Sharon (Rob) Baker, Ingonish. He is also survived by four brothers, Percy (Mae), Sydney Mines, Sylvester (Anges), Bart (Lenora), Ingonish, and Angus, Ontario; two sisters Nora Young, Ingonish, and Barb (Robert) Reinhart, Ontario. Poppy will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Ryan and Kyla Dunphy, Christopher and Tiffany Rambeau, Patrick and Jamie Powers, Rachael and Nicholas Baker; his great-granddaughter, Sharalyn; great-grandsons, Devin and Keigan, as well as Ella’s entire family and everyone who knew him for his kind and generous spirit.
Cecil was predeceased by his brother, Chester of Ingonish, and sister Edna Cooke of North Sydney.
Visitation will be held at Fillmore & Whitman funeral home, Ingonish, on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Ingonish, Rev. Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial to be held at a later date.
