We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Pierce A. Keough, 94.
Pierce passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, March 17, 2013.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Heaney) Keough.
Pierce grew up in Whitney Pier, but later moved to Ashby to raise a family of his own. He spent many dedicated years working for the Sydney Whitney Pier Bus Company. He was a faithful member of St. Theresa’s parish in Sydney. Pierce loved spending his summers out on the Mira with his family, took great joy in making people laugh, and loved being around children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Pierce is survived by and will be sadly missed by his children, Sandra MacLennan (Malcie), Elizabeth Morrison (Dave), both of Sydney, and Mark Keough (Tanya), St. Catharines, Ont.; his grandchildren, Katrina Meikle (Alistair), Ottawa, Malcolm MacLennan (Tanya), Reserve, Michelle Morrison (fiancé, Brent Wadden), Dawnielle and Stephen Morrison, all of Sydney, Brent Keough (Julie Hughes), Halifax, Josh and Ellysa Keough, St. Catharines, Ont.; and his special great-grandson, Logan Meikle, Ottawa. He is also survived and missed by sisters, Madeline Fitzgerald, Whitney Pier, Anna Letourneau, Toronto, Ont.; and by brother, Jimmy, Whitney Pier, as well as his daughter-in-law, Pat Foley. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Genevieve (Campbell) Keough and his son, Paul Keough, as well as sister, Mary ‘Mamie’ Keough, and brothers, Joseph ‘Joe’ Keough, Ronald ‘Ron’ Keough, and Gerald ‘Jerry’ Keough.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 19, at T.W Curry Parkview Chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 20, at 10 a.m. at St.Theresa’s Church, Sydney, N.S., with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating, burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
