Benny Leadbeater, 78, of Sunset Drive, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at his home.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Jane (Duffney) Leadbeater.
Benny retired from Lingan Mine after 38 years of service. He was a member of All Saints Anglican Church. Some of his interests included, going for drives, watching movies and doing carpentry work. Benny was also a car enthusiast. But mostly, he will be remembered as a loving family man.
Benny is survived by his wife, Helen ‘Essie’ (MacNeil) Leadbeater, RN; one daughter, Shawna Goodwin, New Waterford; one son, Jerrod, at home; two grandchildren, Felicitas and Jacob Goodwin; two brothers, Tommy (Georgina), John (Alice) and one sister, Shirley Leadbeater, all in New Waterford. Benny will also be sadly missed by nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Benny was predeceased by his brother, Earl, who died in No. 12 mine explosion in 1973.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford at a later date. Rev. Vernon Reid will officiate.
As an expression of sympathy for Benny, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association, Palliative Care or the IWK Hospital.
