Dorothy Nella "Cookie" Purdy

Purdy, Dorothy Nella “Cookie”, 71, Truro, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by her family. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Gardiner) Burton. She formerly worked for G.B. Murphy’s Jewelry, Truro, and later for People’s Jeweler, Truro.
Cookie was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Lower Truro and a member of the St. Paul’s Church Choir. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Guild and also the former treasurer. Cookie enjoyed her many trips and time at her cottage in Brule, and also enjoyed painting and decorating.
She is survived by her sons, Derick (Karen) of Truro, Dwight of Truro; daughter Lisa Tower (John Spears) of Truro; grandchildren, Darren, Justin, Mason, Devin, Averey; great-grandson Ryley; brother Phillip Burton (Carol) of Manitoba; sister Donna Vail (Harold) of Ontario; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws Elaine Burton of Truro, Linda Burton of Malagash.
She was predeceased by her husband Leon Purdy; brothers, Daryl, Gardner, Billy.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 21st from 7-9 in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Funeral service will take place on Friday March 22nd at 2 pm in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro with Pastor Jacqueline Ross officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Watson Cemetery, Truro. Donations in Cookies memory may be made to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, V.O.N., or to the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
