It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Annie Veronica Hodder, 80, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, on Wednesday March 20, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Burgeo, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Dora (Guy) Mercer.
Annie was a person of strong faith and was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.
She loved animals, cats and dogs especially, she enjoyed knitting, but most of all Annie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Annie is survived by her children, Samuel (Noelle) Hodder, Sydney Mines, Louise (Albert) Harvey, Ferry Land, N.L., Norm (Paula) Hodder, Halifax, Stanley Hodder (Tracey Gibson), Kentville, Doreen Skinner (Frank), Burgeo, Douglas (Susan) Hodder, North Sydney, Edward Hodder, St. John’s; 19 grandchildren, Jason, Bobby, Blair, Ryan, Byron, Andrew, Edward, Holly Ann, Francine, Tiffany, Angel, April, Julia, Sarah, Nicole, Rachel, Roseanne, Shirley and John Paul; also a number of great-grandchildren; a brother, Stan (Lottie) Mercer, Burgeo; a sister, Mill (Lorne) MacDonald, New Brunswick; a sister-in-law, Kay Mercer, Burgeo; also a number of nieces and nephews.
Annie was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Hodder in 2011, by a daughter, Joan Dora Hodder, two sons, Gerald and John Hodder, a sister, Florence Mercer, brothers Jack, Gerald and Gilbert Mercer.
Visitation for Annie will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
