Born In: Canada
Passed in: Canada
We the family of the late Bernard (the late Anne) Gillis wish to express our sincere thanks to all our relatives, friends and neighbours for their support and kindness on the passing of Bernard. The funeral mass for Bernard was concelebrated by Fr. Norman MacPee (brother-in-law) and Fr. James Oliver (parish priest) at St. Theresa\'s Chruch, Sydney on January 7, 2010. They were assisted by Fr. Paul MacGillivray, Fr. Frank Abbass, Fr. Joe Gillis and Fr. Albert Maroon. The altar servers were friends Bob MacLean, Archie MacRury, and brother-in-law, Dannie MacPhee. The offertory was presented by granddaughters Alexis MacNeil, Sarah Gillis and Faye McDonald. Eucharistic ministers were sisters-in-law Mary Gillis, Liz MacPhee and cousin Barbara MacLean. The readers were his godchildren, Josephine Steele, Eileen Mallet and sister-in-law Anna MacPhee. Music was provided by St. Theresa\'s senior choir, soloist Dave Poirier (family friend) and piper John T. MacDonald (cousin). The pallbearers were Bernard\'s son Stephen, sons-in-law Alan MacNeil, Scott Christie, Ian McDonald, nephews Donnie Gillis and Vincent MacPhee. Legion members, most veterans like Dad, formed the honour guard and conducted the Last Post. Bernard was laid to rest in St. Margaret\'s Cemetery, Grand Mira with graveside service by Fr. Norman. We are very grateful to all these participants who made Bernard\'s Celebration of Life very personal. Very special thanks to St. Margaret\'s Ladies Aid and the Men\'s Club for preparing and serving a lovely meal to all who attended the burial. We appreciate the kind and professional service provided by the First Responders and the staff of TW Curry\'s Parkview Chapel. We are overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of all who came to Dad\'s wake, attended his funeral, sent mass and sympathy cards, emails, memorial donations, enrollments, flowers, gifts of food, and called our homes with words of comfort.
Sincere thanks
Rose, Vincent, Jane, Norma, Leanne, Stephen and their families
