George Laird
LAIRD, GEORGE - It is with heartfelt sadness, the family of George Leonard Laird of Hampton, husband of Mary (Forsyth) Laird, announces his passing on Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing, Saint John, NB. He was born on May 6, 1923 in Scotland, the son of the late Donald and Margaret (Thomson) Laird. He is survived by his wife Mary; one sister, Mary Spicer (Dwayne) of Belleisle; two brothers, James Laird (Ruby) of Hampton, Windsor Laird (Margaret) of Edmonton, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Boyle, Elizabeth Oliver, Loretta Shannon; and four brothers, Donald, Balfour, Clarence and Alistair Laird. George was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in England. He was a life member of Hampton Branch 28, Royal Canadian Legion, and a life member of the Hampton Seniors Resource Centre where he served on the board of directors for many years. George was an adherent member of Hampton United Church.
As with keeping with George’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Dr. Ron Vincent, will be held from Reid’s Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton at 1:00pm, Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Interment will be in Hampton Rural Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Hampton Legion following the interment. Donations to the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
