One day before his 62nd birthday, Lorne Keith MacDonald of Reserve Street, Glace Bay, formerly of Dominion, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, Keith was the son of the late Ron and Anna (Hawley) MacDonald.
Keith was employed with MT&T/Bell Aliant, retiring after 34 years of service.
Throughout his life, his family was always his first priority. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones and had a special relationship with his dog, Shamus.
Keith is survived by his wife of 38 years, Simone ‘Monie’ (O’Neil) MacDonald; daughter, Margaret Ann (Daniel), Moncton; as well as his daughters by affection, Kelly Hayes and Mary Beth Gouthro. Also surviving are his brother, Darrell (Therese), L’Ardoise; sister, Kim McCormick (Kerry), Glace Bay; uncle, Kenny Hawley (Moira), Sydney; sisters-in-law, Bina (Hector) Gouthro, Dianne O’Neil; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Keith was predeceased by his sister, Diane Melrose as well as several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held today (Tuesday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone, is Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, followed by a reception in the church foyer. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Bridgeport.
Flowers will be accepted, but donations may also be made to the VON or palliative care.
