It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Rita (Boudreau) Furlong, who passed away peacefully with loving family by her side.
Born in Sydney, N.S., she was the oldest daughter to the late Wilfred and Emily (Morgan) Boudreau.
Known to loved ones as Rita, she was predeceased by her husband, Leo Furlong, brother, Bill Boudreau and sister, Mabel MacInnis.
She will be deeply missed by her two children, Tom Furlong (Mary) and Faye (Furlong) Benware; and her sisters, Isabel Harris and Yvonne March (George). She loved and cherished the time she spent with her nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, who will also miss her dearly.
Rita was an avid gardener and enjoyed knitting blankets. She was constantly cooking meals and treats for her family. Rita was a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Branch 12 Legion for many years. While employed by Dr. and Mrs. Grosvenor from Baddeck, she travelled throughout the United States. This path led her to live in Massachusetts where she worked at Raytheon until she returned to Cape Breton to retire.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 12-2 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. in the chapel with a reception to follow.
