Elta Duguid
DUGUID, ELTA - Elta (Wilbur) Duguid died peacefully in Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, NB, on March 23, 2013, at the age of 103. She was born in New Horton, Albert Co., NB, lived in Sydney, NS, from 1940 - 2000, and then in Moncton, NB. Elta was the daughter of the late Capt. Alvin Wilbur and the late Martha Cox. She is survived by her daughter, Verne MacDonald of Moncton, and her son, Leslie of St. Lambert, QC. Her grandchildren are Karen Duguid and Curtis Duguid of St. Lambert, QC; Weldon (Cindy) MacDonald of River Glade, NB, and Carl MacDonald of Anchorage, Alaska. Elta's great-grandchildren are Emilie, Sara, Kaiya, Macie, and Brennan. Her sister Doris (Harvey) Hicks resides in Moncton. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin; son-in-law, Max MacDonald, and daughter-in-law, Lois Duguid. In Sackville, Elta was a seed analyst at the Seed Branch and taught in summer schools at Mount Allison University. In Sydney, she was a homemaker, a member of the United Baptist Church, and a teacher. Many young people can witness the help she gave them in her home with their academic studies. Elta enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and was an incredible fund of information and help to those around her.
Viewing will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, March 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Thursday, March 28 at 10 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elta's memory can be made to the charity of your choosing.
