DELANEY, GERTRUDE LESLIE - Gertrude L. Delaney, formerly of McAdam, NB, wife of the late John Douglas Delaney, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2013 under the kind and loving care of the staff at Pine Grove Nursing Home, Fredericton, NB. Gertrude was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the eldest of three daughters of the late Robert and Maud (Little) Dorcas. She was raised in Harvey, NB and at the age of fifteen moved to Boston, MA to live with her Aunt Rose where she studied classical piano and voice. Gertrude returned to Harvey where she taught music and later took a hairdressing course. She married John Douglas Delaney in 1952 at which time she moved to McAdam, NB. She loved family gatherings, especially at the summer cottage on Harvey Lake. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church and the U.C.W. where she sang in the choir and occasionally played the organ. She was a member of a ladies’ group of special friends who played cards and enjoyed each other’s company weekly. Gertrude was a talented artist and an amazing cook. In her later years she took great pleasure in travelling to Spain, England and Boston. She is survived by her daughter, Ferne Kilbride (Terry), Fredericton, NB; two sons, John Delaney (Marise), Fredericton, NB and Paul Delaney (Shannon), Saint John, NB; her many grandchildren: Christopher Kilbride (Myl ne), Rob Kilbride (Tina), Patrick Delaney, Jill Delaney, Michael Delaney and Rebecca Delaney; her step-grandchildren: Kevin Vaillancourt, Nadine Vaillancourt, Patricia Russell (Chris) and Erin Herrington (Charlie); three great grandchildren: twins Audrey and Emile Kilbride and Lily Rose Kilbride; a sister-in-law, Jean Ferris, Moncton, NB She loved all her nieces and nephews who joined in all her annual family parties. A very special nephew, Hugh Bartlett spent his highschool years living with the family in McAdam. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Genevie Swan and Marion Bartlett.
Visitation will be held with the family at St. Paul’s United Church, 155 Saunders Road, McAdam, NB on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 12 noon until the hour of the service at 2 p.m. Rev. Ellen Beairsto and Pastor Sue Breisch will officiate. A reception will follow in the church fellowship room. Interment will take place at a later date at Rockland Cemetery. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Gertude, the family has suggested the Parkinson’s Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
