WESTVILLE – Elda Margaret Deagle, 81, of College Street, Westville, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2010, with her family at her side.
A life-long resident of Westville, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Evelyn (Rundle) MacNeil.
During her lifetime she was heavily involved in the community as a former member and chairperson of both the Pictou County and Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, a member and former president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, Ladies Auxiliary, the Westville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and the Dunvegan Pipe Band Mother’s Auxiliary. She was also one of the founding members of the Westville Community Club and acted as secretary for many years. She served on the town’s July 1 committee and was a former president of the Westville and Pictou Centre Progressive Conservative Association.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Patricia Reeves (Clifford), Foxbrook; Marylou White (Alfred), Foxbrook; sons, Mike (Karen) Westville, Andrew (Cecile), Hopewell; Michael (Kim), Hammonds Plains; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a brother, Doug MacNeil (Julie), Westville, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Andrew; a son, David; and a brother, Harry, both in infancy.
Her remains will rest at the Eagles Funeral Home in Westville, with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. from St. Paul United Church with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial in MacLeod Cemetery, Foxbrook. Family flowers only.
