Thomas Edward ‘Ed’ Tubrett, 85, of Lunenburg passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Oliver) Tubrett.
Edward retired after 24 years of service with the Royal Canadian Forces. During retirement he was active with the R.C.R. Association as well as volunteering with the Sea Cadets in Sydney and Lunenburg. He was also known for his hobby of marlinspike seamanship.
Ed was the family historian. He could recall the past with the greatest of accuracy and was often asked to relate his memories and explain family connections.
Edward is survived by his wife of 27 years, Anne Kennedy; daughter Laura (Randy) Barker, Ohio; sons, Frank (Diane), Robert (Andrea), David (Jocelyn), all of London, Ont.; step-sons, David Kennedy, Calgary, James (Kim) Kennedy, Petawawa; step-daughter Cathy (Chris) Van der Mark, Smithers, B.C.; sisters, Helen (Gerald) AuCoin, Dartmouth; Margaret ‘Peggy’ Keough, Sydney; brother, Earle (Marg) Tubrett, Ingonish. Ed will also be missed by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife Brenda Erickson of London, Ont.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen; brothers, Gorman, Gerald (Sonny), Robert and infant brother John.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. In keeping with Edward’s wishes there will be no memorial service and his ashes will be scattered at sea.
